In these half-abstract paintings in the series “Mountains”, the artist shows the grandeur of his native Western Georgia with high craftsmanship, and in the manner of painting you can see the wholeness of a realistic image woven from tiny abstract pieces like a carpet. He teaches the viewer how to look at the landscape and see its beauty. These works didn’t appear from nowhere – in the 1917 “Imereti, My Mother” you can see this language of representation already. It’s amazing that after 17 years in France he would return to this visual style.
